When I think back about my past educational experiences, I have both good and bad memories. However, one of the best was reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was the first book I ever read all alone. I felt very proud when the book was completed. My teacher at the time encouraged the whole class to read the book. Without her encouragement, I don't think it could have been done. She helped me to see that reading can be enjoyable and not just a form of punishment. I then continued to read more books by Roald Dahl including The BFG and The Witches. I will forever remember reading this book. Even today, some of my former class mates and I discuss this teacher and her teaching techniques. She was very effective, but yet she was assessable. I hope to carry these techniques over to my teaching. Hopefully my students will also enjoy the writings of Roald Dahl.
